10 Ways to Build Trust Using Social Media
Jul 11, 2024Social media is a great way to build trust and will help to demonstrate that you’re the right practitioner for prospective clients and reassure existing clients that they chose well. Here are 10 ways you can use social media to help build trust with your audience.
#1 Show up Consistently
Building trust on social media is a long game and it won’t happen overnight. It’s important to show up consistently but that doesn’t mean you have to post every day. Work out a schedule that works for you and the time you have available and commit to it.
Don’t worry about repeating yourself, part of showing up consistently is having a consistent message and consistently letting people know what you do and how you can help them. You must share your messages multiple times to reach your audience as each post is only seen by a tiny percentage of your followers.
#2 Create a Consistent Look
Having a consistent look and feel to your posts will help people recognise them as yours. You don’t have to invest in a fancy rebrand, just picking a few colours, and fonts, and creating a style for your brand that you stick to will help. If you need help with this, check out my blog and podcast on how to pick brand colours and fonts.
#3 Create a Consistent Voice
Your brand voice is very important in building trust on social media. By this, I mean how you share information whether that’s written or spoken, they should have a common tone and feel about them. A consistent voice will help your audience get a sense of who you are and how you communicate.
Create simple guidelines for your brand so you know what tone fits, for example professional, chatty, succinct, flowery, etc., whether you swear, or if you embellish posts with emojis. For help with this, check out my blog on how to hone your brand voice.
And, have a few select topics that you discuss on social media so your audience learns what to expect from you. For example, for work I talk about marketing, business, and mindset, but I also share some personal topics like living in Wales, my dogs, working from home, crafts, etc. This helps people to get to know me as a professional, and as a person.
#4 Create Quality Content
Use your content to share your knowledge, experience, and approach to working with clients. This can be done through educational posts and sharing stories that demonstrate your expertise.
Quality content isn’t limited to tips or how-to posts - it can be whatever your clients need from a funny story to something that inspires and motivates them, understanding your values, and behind-the-scenes posts are always popular (we’re all a little nosey!). The key is to make sure it’s written in a way that relates to your brand as well as what your clients need to hear from you.
#5 Demonstrate Your Expertise
Showcase your professionalism and expertise on social media. Ensure your profiles are up to date and reflect your expertise through your posts and comments.
#6 Share Your Process
Give clients an insight into what it’s like to work with you. Use social media to explain your approach and what clients can expect from the experience. This helps them understand how you support them to address their issues.
#7 Share Testimonials
Testimonials and reviews from happy clients are a brilliant way to share your expertise. Think of the times you buy something; you check the reviews to see what others have to say. Sharing your testimonials will help prospective clients trust you’re the right practitioner for them.
If clients are willing to share their feedback on their own platforms even better. Ask permission to screenshot them and share them on your social media as they’re great social proof.
#8 Be Interested
Show interest in your audience by asking questions and responding to comments. Engage in conversations on your posts and others’ posts to build trust and get noticed.
#9 Negative Comments
Hopefully, you don’t get many of these, but if you do, it’s how you handle them that will make a big difference. Make sure you respond quickly and calmly, and whatever you do, don’t ignore it.
That said, if you get comments from trolls (so annoying), simply report, block, and delete them – don’t get involved in conversations with these people as it’s a waste of your time and energy.
#10 Share Videos
Videos give the viewer a real sense of who you are, and how you express yourself and they are a brilliant way to build trust. You can use them to share about yourself, your services, tips, news, and updates, or even a daily update so people get to discover insights about you and your day.
Conclusion
Trust is crucial when choosing a holistic practitioner. Simple tweaks to your social media can increase trust, helping you find clients and build a successful business.
