Create a Google Business Profile for Your Holistic Business

GBP used to be known as Google My Business and is a free tool that provides you with a business listing that integrates with the Google search engine and maps. Having one allows you to manage how you appear on Google, showcase what you do and show up in searches by potential clients.
It’s the information you get when you search for something in Google - you get a selection of companies at the top of the search and pins on the map to show their location. These listings allow Google to provide answers to its users in one place without having to visit different websites, so you need to make sure you’re included.
This is especially important in today’s online world. Even if you don’t have a website, you can have an online presence by setting your GBP.
Your listing includes general information about your business, photos, where you can collect reviews and respond to them, and create short-term promotions and post regular updates.
Create Your Google Business Profile
You start by either using your existing Google account or creating a new one if you don’t have one.
From there you will be able to set up your business profile, agree to the terms and conditions and verify your business with a code or link depending on your preference.

Complete Your Profile
Once verified, you can manage your profile from either the Google search or maps by simply typing in your business name. Describe your business in 750 characters or less in your profile making sure it reflects you, your approach and who you help.
It’s important to include photos and videos as they will help you stand out and help prospective clients get a sense of who you are and the experience of working with you.
Use different images to make your listing stand out and provide useful information. Include:
- Cover photo – use a branded graphic to provide a snapshot to anyone viewing your profile.
- Profile photo – this is especially important as a holistic practitioner as people want to see who they’re considering working with.
- Exterior photos so clients know what to look for when they visit you
- Interior photos of your reception area and/or consulting rooms
- Photos of you working with clients or your products
- Your team and colleagues
And if you have a short video about your business – include that as it will really help you to stand out.
Make sure all the information you add is accurate and kept up to date as soon as anything changes in your business, e.g., opening hours.
GMB Reviews
Make it easy for people to leave reviews for you on Google by providing them with the link from your account. Then get into the habit of asking your happy clients to leave a review on your GBP as it provides social proof of the quality of your work.
Always thank anyone for leaving you a good review and if you’re unfortunate to get a negative one, respond to it and address it in a professional and courteous way. All the reviews are public, and you want to leave a good impression at all costs.
Keep Your Listing Fresh with Posts
Posts are a way of keeping people updated about your business by sharing offers, events, and announcements. They can be text, images or video and you can add an action button, so the reader knows what step to take next.
Posts are a great way to promote your business locally without having to spend a lot of money. You will need to spend some time crafting your post with the following:
- Stick to one message per post
- Have a good heading that appeals to what your client is searching for
- Clear and concise text – only the first 100 characters show up so make them count
- Use a great image or video that stands out and is good quality
