How to Build Trust on Social Media
Feb 16, 2023As a holistic practitioner, clients want to know you share their values and trust that you’re the right person to help them. Trust builds loyalty which will help you to create a sustainable business for the future.
Here are 7 ways you can use social media to help build trust with your audience.
Show up - Consistently
Building trust on social media is a long game and it won’t happen overnight. It’s important to show up consistently but that doesn’t mean you have to post every day. Work out a schedule that works for you and the time you have available and commit to it.
Create a Consistent Look
Having a consistent look and feel to your posts will help people recognise them as yours. You don’t have to invest in a fancy rebrand, just picking a few colours, and fonts, and creating a style for your brand that you stick to will help. If you need help with this, check out my blog and podcast on how to pick brand colours and fonts.
Create a Consistent Voice
Your brand voice is very important in building trust on social media. By this, I mean how you share information whether that’s written or spoken, they should have a common tone and feel about them. A consistent voice will help your audience get a sense of who you are and how you communicate.
Create simple guidelines for your brand so you know what tone fits, for example professional, chatty, succinct, flowery, etc., whether you swear, or if you embellish posts with emojis. For help with this, check out my blog and podcast on how to find your brand voice.
And, have a few select topics that you discuss on social media so your audience learns what to expect from you. For example, for work I talk about marketing, finding clients, holistic businesses, and mindset, but I also share some personal topics like living in Wales, my dogs, working from home, crafts, etc. This helps people to get to know me as a professional, and as a person.
Create Quality Content
Use your content to share your knowledge, experience, and approach to working with clients. This can be done through educational posts and sharing stories that demonstrate your expertise.
Quality content isn’t limited to tips or how-to posts - it can be whatever your clients need from a funny story to something that inspires and motivates them, understanding your values, and behind-the-scenes posts are always popular (we’re all a little nosey!). The key is to make sure it’s written in a way that relates to your brand as well as what your clients need to hear from you.
Share Testimonials
Testimonials and reviews from happy clients are a brilliant way to share your expertise. Think of the times you buy something, you check the reviews to see what others have to say. Sharing your testimonials will help prospective clients trust you’re the right practitioner for them.
If clients are willing to share their feedback on their own platforms even better. Ask permission to screenshot them and share them on your own profile as they’re great social proof for your holistic business.
Be Interested
Within your own posts, ask questions to show you're interested in your audience's opinions, and make sure you respond to everyone who comments.
Use your content to build relationships by asking questions and inviting conversations with your audience.
And don’t just have conversations on your posts, make comments, and start conversations on other people’s posts – it’s a great way to get noticed and build trust.
Negative Comments
Hopefully, you don’t get many of these, but if you do, it’s how you handle them that will make a big difference. Make sure you respond quickly and it’s calm and considered, and whatever you do, don’t ignore it.
That said, if you get comments from trolls (so annoying), simply report, block, and delete them – don’t get involved in conversations with these people as it’s a waste of your time and energy.
Share Videos
There’s no getting away from videos and they’re here to stay. So many holistic practitioners shy away from the camera. I hear you – it took me years to get over my fear and create regular videos. But I started simply and now they don’t phase me – and I’ve had clients who found me through them.
Videos give the viewer a real sense of who you are, and how you express yourself and they are a brilliant way to build trust. You can use them to share about yourself, your services, tips, news, and updates, or even a daily update so people get to discover insights about you and your day.
Trust is huge when it comes to picking a holistic practitioner so help your clients to recognise the qualities to trust in you. Some simple tweaks to your social media can ramp up the trust factor which ultimately will help you find clients and build a successful business.
