Why You Need Your Own Marketing Recipe
Mar 02, 2023Marketing isn’t the favourite business activity for many holistic health professionals – some feel it’s some sort of dark art and avoid it at any cost. But the reality is, you must market yourself to find clients.
Claims of Overnight Success
Much of its bad reputation comes from the self-proclaimed gurus promising that if you pay them a small fortune, and follow their plan, you’ll build 6 figure business in 6 weeks - total BS.
Get rich quick schemes and blueprints may work for the creator, but it doesn’t mean they’ll work for you. They may have found their way of building a successful business, but there’s no “one size fits all” approach.
What works for you will be completely different from what works for me, or the online guru claiming to have “the answer”. The constant barrage of “work longer, work harder, work faster, work better” just leads to frustration, disappointment, and forgotten dreams.
Unfortunately, holistic practitioners often get disheartened when they feel bullied into marketing themselves in a way that doesn’t align with them and their values. They don’t achieve the promised results or stick to the dictated routines and gather more evidence that marketing doesn’t work for them.
Your Marketing Recipe
To thrive as a holistic practitioner and help those clients who are waiting for your unique approach, you must let them you’re there. And you do this by marketing yourself in the right way, not trying to follow yet another system.
Instead of trying to conform to someone else’s formula, create your own recipe. One that works to your strengths, your values, and available resources.
You’re more likely to do the work required because it’s aligned with you, and therefore, ultimately succeed. You’re at the heart of your business and you get to decide how to market yourself.
Why a Recipe?
When you’re cooking, you decide what you’re going to cook based on who you’re cooking for, your tastes, your skills in the kitchen, the ingredients, and the time you have available. There may be a few elements that create the menu and that with the different recipes will help you make sure you do everything in the right order. You even get creative as you go and tweak things to make them just right – it’s part of the process.
Once you have recipes you know and love, you can repeat them over and over, it’s easy – and it’s the same with your marketing.
Plans are Recipes for Your Marketing (and Business)
You’re doing what you do when cooking, only without the food. You work out what you want to achieve (your menu) and who for (your clients/prospective clients). Once you know this, you can decide on the strategies (recipes) that best work for you based on your skills and resources (ingredients). You then work out the steps you need to do which you can tweak and repeat as required.
Your Recipe for Success
Marketing done well is about building connections and being helpful so that people get to understand what you do and how you can help them. Successful holistic practitioners have a clear way to build relationships, find clients, and have a simple way to deliver their offers.
There are literally hundreds of ways you can market yourself and your services, but you can’t do them all. Just because you see your peers marketing themselves in a certain way, it doesn’t make it right for you.
Start by keeping your marketing simple and as you build your confidence, you’ll begin experimenting and developing new and improved recipes. You’ll start to discover what works and importantly what you enjoy doing most. The more you can have fun with your marketing, the more consistent you will be with it.
Creating your own recipe to find clients that works to your strengths, values and available resources will help you create a sustainable holistic business. There absolutely is work to do and there will be times when you feel well and truly out of your comfort zone. But imagine the reward of having a successful, sustainable holistic business that you’re proud of. It’s possible with the right recipe!
